Let’s Talk About Microdosing Marijuana

Sep 13, 2021

How Does It Work? What Are the Benefits? What Brands Offer Low Dose Products?

Have you heard of m icrodosing ? It’s become more and more common in the recreational drug world, providing a controlled opportunity to experience specific benefits or effects of specific drugs without the extreme psychological effects. Microdosing is often associated with psychedelics like shrooms and LSD, but did you know you can microdose with marijuana?

What is Microdosing with Cannabis?

Microdosing is exactly what it sounds like: consuming a smaller dose of THC to achieve desired effects or benefits while experiencing less psychoactive effects. Typically microdosing is categorized by THC products with less than 10mg in each dose. To put it in perspective, the average THC edible has 30-100mg per dose.

Who Should Microdose? What Does it Help With?

Thanks for asking! Microdosing has proven to be beneficial for users who suffer from anxiety, depression, chronic pain, cancer, insomnia, PTSD, MS, IBS, and more (it’s a long list!) Along with easing health problems, many consumers use specific low-dose THC products to help with sleep, energy, and focus.

Those who suffer from depression and anxiety have experienced more success stories microdosing than consuming normal doses of cannabis products. Side effects like paranoia and anxiety from being too high are minimized when consuming lower doses.

PTSD patients often microdose with cannabis to help with insomnia and to ease nightmares. Microdosing doesn’t have such an overbearing effect on the nerves like normal doses of weed, so it can help sensitive users still feel in control.

How Do I Start Microdosing?

If you want to try microdosing, you should start with 1-2.5 mg doses for 3 days, then increase in 1 mg increments until you achieve the benefits you’re looking for. Once you reach the perfect dosage, stick to it for 4 days before increasing again.

If you’re already a regular cannabis user and have built up a tolerance, try stopping cold turkey for two days before you start microdosing. Otherwise you won’t feel the effects properly. For those who aren’t used to the effects of cannabis, it’s probably best to start on a day where you can stay home and track the effects.

Which Products are Best for Microdosing?

Vaping and smoking are the trickiest forms of consumption to track dosage and even harder to recreate the same effect each time. Instead, try edibles, oil or tinctures which are more consistent. Always look at the dosage and read the directions to achieve the desired effect.

THC vs. CBD vs. THC/CBD 1:1

When you first hear ‘microdosing,’ you might think of CBD which is known for its calming and healing properties without the psychological high. CBD and THC actually work best together balancing each other’s therapeutic and relaxing features. Many low dose products will offer a CBD and THC combo, typically with a 1:1 ratio. To microdose with these products, it’s recommended you maintain the 1:1 ratio and start with just 1 mg of each until you get used to the light high.
